Adventures of Huckleberry Pup (Vol. 3)

And now the moment you have all been waiting for, the third installment of the Adventures of Huckleberry Pup. A few months back, the team at InteGrand paired with Patriot Assistance Dogs to adopt a precocious little pup named Huckleberry. The Patriot Assistance Dogs program pairs dogs with veterans who are in need of a bit of assistance due to injuries sustained during their time in the service. Here are some of the fun things that Huck has been doing since we last checked in with him.

padsHaving Fun Checking the Hunting Stands

With hunting season in full swing, Huck, Mom, Madison and Jacob took a trip into the woods. Huckleberry loves getting to ride on the ATV into the woods. Once the crew was deep in the woods, Madison and Jacob began going up the trees to check the stands. Huck seemed a bit confused as to why he couldn’t go and even jumped off of the ATV to see what was going on. While in the woods, Huck did get a bit aggressive with Jacob and accidentally scratched his face. Once Jacob began crying, Huck was visibly confused and rushed over to give Jacob hugs and kisses. As training with Huck continues, small incidents like this will become less frequent.

A Trip to the Vetsitting

Huck ventured to the vet a few weeks ago for a routine checkup and to get a few shots. The boosters and rabies shots did not really startle Huck, which shows that he is maturing. The vet said that Huckleberry is now 25.4 pounds and is very healthy. While at the vet, Huck received lots of treats and even a new collar. In a few months, the vet will need to neuter Huck.

Working on Commands

One of the most important things for Huck to learn are simple commands. By learning simple commands like come, sit or stay, Huck will make life easier for his new owner. Madison works with Huck on a daily basis on various commands. This pup is very smart and eager to please when it comes to performing the tasks associated with various commands.

Each month, Huckleberry is learning more and more. Each of the things that the trainers work with Huck on will benefit the veteran that the dog is given to.
