5 Ways to Create Better Relationships with your Coworkers - InteGrand

integrand3Working in the office can sometimes be all work and no play. However, it doesn’t have to be a death sentence of boredom. Take a chance and socialize with someone you’ve never spoken to before—and create a stronger relationship with your coworkers. Here are some concrete ways to do that:

  1. React to problems with compassion and understanding. It’s so helpful to be understanding and reasonable with your coworkers. Everyone makes mistakes. Remember that time you clogged up the printer and it wouldn’t stop beeping? When something goes wrong, try to remember your coworkers’ intentions, and your own. Everyone is moving toward the same goal!
  1. Listen more. Are you impatient? Do you have tunnel-focus? If your coworkers are communicating something to you, listen to their feedback and patiently take it in. You never know what awesome results can come from genuine collaboration and listening to one another.
  1. Reward good behavior and hard work. If you approve of someone’s work, don’t be afraid to tell them. Acknowledge your peers and their importance; if you show them you think they are significant, they will begin to trust you and appreciate your presence and support.
  1. Work together to build trust. This goes back to listening—don’t cut your coworkers out of the situation. Learn to communicate, enlist their help when you need it, and give as much as you get. Trust helps coworkers act like a well-oiled machine and produces the best results as well as the most enjoyable process.
  1. Socialize! And last but not least, don’t be afraid to go get a slice of pizza or an after-work cocktail with your coworkers! It’s okay to be friends with these people—and that can help make work so much fun.
